Best Camera App for the iPhone
Many people have given up their point-n-shot cameras for the camera that is always with them, the iPhone. The iPhone has become the top camera on photo sharing sites like Flickr and Facebook.
Many developers have created their own camera applications to take full advantage of the iPhone camera. With so many camera applications in the App Store, it is hard to decide which ones are the best to buy. Are any of these really worth it or is the best one already on the iPhone?
The best selling camera app in the App Store right now is Camera+. Camera+ will not break the bank at $.99. It has a good mix of adjustments and effects that can be applied to photographs. The clarity feature can brighten up dark photos and add more detail. Most applications take focus and exposure settings from the same point. With Camera+, the user can separate focus and exposure points for more control. Photos can be sent to sharing media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr directly from the application. After using a number of different camera applications, Camera+ comes out on top for the user who wants everything in one application that is easy to use.
While Camera Plus Pro is not the best selling or highest rated app, it does offer features not found in other applications. Tags allow users to mark photos with meaningful information. These tags can be added from inside Camera Plus Pro, unlike most applications. The filters and effect are more basic than others, but it still offers the important ones. Camera Plus Pro also comes with a video mode unlike Camera+ creating a more complete all-in-one application. That video mode does have some bugs and is slow compared to Apple’s camera application. Camera Plus Pro costs $1.99 and is the second best all-in-one application with some unique features.
All-in-one cameras are convenient applications that give users all the primary features in one place. Yet, they have many down sides. The pictures are stored inside the application and have to be saved to the iPhone photo library to be used elsewhere. This can be a pain as one never knows where the photos are located. Putting all the photos in the photo library is still the best solution for managing photos on the iPhone. All photos in the library are then sent to iCloud’s photostream for easy access on their computers. Most of these camera applications are also slower than Apple’s standard camera app. The extra features in these applications sometimes are a hindrance of just taking photos, causing photos to be missed.
If one does not need an all-in-one camera, there is a better solution. That solution starts with Apple’s Camera, the built in camera application. This is the best place to take photos as all the photos are sent directly to the photo library so other applications can modify them. After trying Camera+, Camera Plus Pro, Camera Genius, ProCamera, and 100 Cameras in 1, the one that stays on my home page is Apple’s Camera.
