Android Malware Explodes by 400%
According to net-security.org, Android malware has exploded 400% since the summer of 2010. Juniper Networks issued the report, which claims there is a shift from attacking the desktop market to the mobile space.
Key reasons cited for increased attacks on the mobile market are:
-
Powerful smartphone deployments reaching critical mass, making the cell market lucrative enough to sabotage for most hackers.
-
Market consolidation (trending to insecure Android solutions).
The lack of Google screening applications before making their way into the Mobile App Bazaar does nothing to help alleviate this problem, if not exacerbate it.
Google's approach to retroactively reaching into your Android device and deleting apps they deem malware, spyware, etc... is an absolutely insane security methodology. The report points out that retroactive security is no security at all. Imagine if Apple operated this way – the press would have beaten Apple into iOS-pulp. But let us remember, Google's tag line is "Don't be evil" so they must truly want the best for us...
