Review: Amazon Audio Books
iPods can be used for more than just listening to music. Podcasts are a way to download and listen to regularly produced audio content while on the go. Listening to books also provides another great way to use iPods and iPhones.
One place to purchase Audiobooks is from the iTunes store. The second option is from Audible. Audible, which was purchased by Amazon, sells individual books and subscriptions to several types of audio content. Is purchasing Audiobooks from Audible better than iTunes?
Audible has several advantages over purchasing audiobooks from iTunes and they are:
- Audible has a subscription that gives customers a book a month for around $12-15 depending on which plan is chosen. Customers can save at least $10 per book with a subscription, which is a major savings.
- Audible sends out sales and promotional offers to its customers for major savings beyond the one book a month. Many books can be purchased in the $5-$10 range.
- Audible has a much bigger library than iTunes.
- Audio content can be re-downloaded at any time.
While iTunes has an easy one click download method, Audible is just as easy. Files are downloaded directly from the site, unlike the Amazon MP3 Store and can be automatically added to the iTunes library. These files can be used on many types of mobile devices and computers.
Audible also has its own iOS application. Audio content can be searched for, purchased, and downloaded directly from the Audible servers at any time to any iOS device. Previously purchased content can also be downloaded at any time. All of this can be done without plugging the iOS device into a computer and syncing with iTunes.
While users can purchase audio books from iTunes, that content is limited and more expensive than purchasing it from Audible. The Audible iOS application is a great way to wirelessly purchase content while on the go. They provide the best way to wirelessly get and listen to non-podcast audio content.
