The MacBook Air had a great year in 2011. With a 250GB solid state drive and a Sandy Bridge processor, the MacBook Air became a mainstream computer. It was one of Apple's top selling macs for 2011, and it shows no signs of slowing down.

The MacBook Air will see even greater success in 2012. With such a hot product, Apple will continue to focus on the MacBook with another update in the Spring. Intel's new Ivy Bridge processor and graphics processor will bring even faster performance. What else will Apple add to a new MacBook Air?

Apple is likely to add a 15-inch screen size for 2012. This will fuel even more interest in the Macbook Airs, as users upgrade from old MacBook Pros and other PC laptops. The result will be that the MacBook Pro line will start to lose sales as users move from the Pro to the Air. With an 11-inch, 13-inch, and 15-inch display, the Air lineup will have something for almost everyone. Similar to the Mac Pro, the MacBook Pro model will become a niche product for video editors, 3D artists, 3D gamers, and other scientific computing tasks. And as Thunderbolt takes off in the Pro arena, one port for all external devices may eventually make the MacBook Pro obsolete.

The MacBook Air has changed the way we think of computers due to its size and weight. At 2.4 lb. for the 11-inch MacBook Air, it is only one pound more than the iPad. It is less than two-thirds of an inch thick, so it can fit in almost every bag and takes up almost no space. No longer do users have to bring a separate bag just for their laptop that can weigh 8 lb. with all the extra gear.  From college students to CEOs, anyone can throw the MacBook Air into their regular bag without a second thought.

The MacBook Air will define the Mac for 2012 and will outsell all other Macs combined. No longer will users think of their computer just sitting in one spot. It is light enough and small enough to bring along wherever one goes. 2012 will be the year of the MacBook Air for the Mac.
