Now What?

Those of us who have followed Apple for three decades have been a spoiled lot. In the 80's we were introduced to the Apple II and then to the Macintosh. The Mac was an unbelievable computer that propelled us 50 years into the future compared to DOS and unix counterparts.

Then in the 90's Apple seemed to have lost its way. It almost went bankrupt until Mr. Jobs returned and soon released the first iMac. Here was another stroke of genius — a computer you actually wanted people to see as they walked into your room, not something you hid under the desk with 50 cables going every which way.

In the early 2000's we were introduced to a funny little device called an iPod that worked with this "juke box" software called iTunes. It was awesomness all over again. Then five years later the iPhone was announced soon to be followed by the iPad.

So here we have all these cool things Apple has invented that were way above the "expected" for any company. But now what? It seems Apple's road map is just to crank out versions of these products rather than to introduce something new and exciting. We'll get an iPad 3 and and iPhone 5 and a MacBook Air Extreeme or whatever. But what about something new? Something fresh? Something that makes us once again say "Wow, I never thought of that, and I have to have one now!".

This "Wow" is what propells Apple and keeps it far and above the rest. The clock is ticking and this writer is looking forward to another "wow" moment by Apple in 2012.
